More about Street Child World Cup (SCWC)
Across the world millions of children have no option other than to live or work on the streets. These children are ignored, vulnerable to abuse and routinely denied their basic rights. They are seen but not heard.
The SCWC is an international football tournament for street children that runs three months before FIFA's World Cup.
SCWC is a global movement for street children to receive the protection, rehabilitation and opportunities that all children are entitled to. Through football we:
• Provide a global platform for voices of street children to be heard
'Now I can conquer, because I have learnt that however tight I am marked, I can always score a goal. So it relates to life, whatever circumstanceI face I will always be able to get through it.'
• Challenge negative perceptions and treatment of street children
• Ensure street children’s rights are realised
In South Africa after the SCWC 2010 the Durban police stopping the round ups and imprisonment of street kids which they conducted regularly in the past. As a result of SCWC 2014, the first ever act has been passed in Pakistan to support 1.5million street children.
No child should have to live on the streets.
