More about QPR Tiger Cubs
The aim of the QPR Tiger Cubs is: To provide adults, young people and children with Downs Syndrome same the opportunity to train and play matches in a football team representing QPR as their peers, plus extend other opportunities in tennis, media and cookery sessions.
The project addresses the exclusion of children with a disability in mainstream sport, usually with no chance to play for a team.
Through football, this project aims to create a multi-tier learning environment that will improve the participants' overall physical, social and emotional health. The weekly sessions help to increase fitness, balance, coordination and skills. Whilst at the sessions they feel included and their teamwork and communication skills benefit too, with many of them forging strong friendships.
The participants are aged 4- 46 and all live in West London. They have mixed economic backgrounds. For many of the Tiger Cubs, this is one of the few times (other than school) where they were interacting with adults other than their parents, and interacting with other people with DS.
