More about Football Against HIV/AIDS Project(FAHP)
This Project aims to empower female sex workers in 5 cities of Rwanda through football tournaments as a strong forum of advocacy on women’s HIV/AIDS prevention. The project target group is female sex workers (FSWs) and These are groups of people that are vulnerable to sexual violence, getting unwanted pregnancies, HIV/AIDS and isolation due to their socio-economic status and they are underrepresented in HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment interventions placing them at higher risk.
In Rwanda, Female sex workers' life is complex and they lead to a chaotic lifestyle. Everyday life is stressful; they face many dangers including police arrest, harassment, intimidation by clients and violence from their regular partners. They find their life distressing and depressing. Alcohol/drugs are often used as a stress coping agent, and the frequent use highly influence their engagement in unsafe sex.
