More about CitiCricket
CitiCricket was created to achieve the following:
- Enhance grassroots cricket and act as a catalyst for sustainable development.
- Promote participation in cricket amongst boys and girls aged 8-16.
- Attract a young audience through dynamic programmes.
- Engage parents and guardians of youngsters in the programmes.
Appropriate cities are chosen following consultation with the respective County Cricket Boards. Working closely with each Board’s Cricket Development Managers, a programme to deliver coaching is designed which generally takes place out of school hours or during school holidays. Youngsters who want to continue playing at the end of the programme are introduced to local clubs with junior sections. Over 10,000 boys and girls have been introduced to the benefits which playing cricket can bring.
Eleven new clubs have been formed, 56 new Junior/Youth sections to existing clubs have been created and 93 new coaches have qualified. CitiCricket is now present in inner-city locations throughout 8 counties across the UK, giving children in local communities a positive framework to channel their energies after school and in their spare time. CitiCricket gives children a common purpose and encourages them to be outside and active while forming a close community and team spirit.
