More about Blues Bodycare
Blues Bodycare began in 2007 and is an innovative health improvement programme which is delivered to children, young people and adults throughout South East Essex. It has developed to include projects which cater for all ages and needs, both physical and emotional. Southend United are now highlighted as an official delivery partner in the NHS Strategy for Obesity reduction.
Blues Bodycare uses sport to reduce the obesity levels and improve the health and well being of children, young people and adults. Blues Bodycare provides participants with information and knowledge to maintain a healthy lifestyle. The weekly sports sessions combine theory and practical activities to exercise both mind and body and are delivered by qualified and experienced staff members and support carers. Obesity rates within Southend on Sea are higher than that of the National average.
Furthermore there are significant health inequalities with life expectancy in the targeted areas of deprivation to be as much as 10 years lower than those living in more affluent areas. Health improvement is our key focus due to the overwhelming evidence base provided to us by the NHS that the Blues Bodycare Sports programme could play a major part in lowering obesity levels and at the same time tackle issues relating to social exclusion and isolation
