More about Work to Play
Urban Initiatives is a Chicago nonprofit organization that runs a health and education soccer program called Work to Play. Through the active engagement of at-risk kids in our extracurricular activities at a young age.
Urban Initiatives empowers youth to live a healthy lifestyle, value their education, and enhance their personal and social development. We take a collaborative, whole-child approach to development in order to provide children with the opportunities to reach their full potential.#
Urban Initiatives founders were teaching in the Chicago Public Schools when they witnessed first-hand the hurdles that poor, minority children must overcome in order to succeed. As professional soccer coaches, they organized a before and after school soccer program.
This grassroots program that was comprised of only two coaches, one school, and twelve students has since grown to serve over 1,050 kids from 35 schools.
