More about Wheelchair Tennis Development Fund
Disabled people in low-income countries face many different challenges including social exclusion and discrimination with 98% of disabled children in developing nations not going to school. Wheelchair tennis is used to help to improve the opportunities available to these people, promoting integration, tackling the issue of social exclusion and providing participants with an active and rewarding life. Our programmes try to promote integration, learning and developing together, enabling interaction between two groups that are often otherwise segregated in society and breaking pre-conceptions and for many it provides the opportunity to play with friends and family. Sustainable development programmes are set up in partnership with the National Association and other relevant partners, with activity set up in over 40 low-income countries worldwide. Low-cost portable equipment provided enables tennis to be played outside of traditional environments, increasing accessibility. Integration is at the heart of all activities, with non-disabled and disabled people playing tennis together.
