More about We like to Move-It, Move-It!
The focused use of sports and physical activity engagements, by Move-It, Moving Matters is to:
- increase access to and participation in opportunities for children which advances motoric competence, personal confidence and general health;
- level the playing fields across ethnic divides;
- advance citizenship towards the Millennium Development Goals;
- empower the nation to engage in National and International events where peace, respect and honour prevail.
The specific social issue that Move-It, Moving Matters helps to redress is the disparity in education delivery. The aim is to engage children in sufficient, quality physical activity experiences in the absence of formalised and regulated Physical Education. Regrettably, Physical Education was removed from the South African school curriculum in 1999, which has left a large majority of our citizens motorically disempowered, health compromised and marginalised as sports participants. Recently, new curriculum developments have recognised the value of Physical Education stipulating that a dedicated period, per week, is allocated for this purpose.
With the current absence of trained professionals and the time lag between policy formulation and its practical implementation, a significant void is left, which Move-It, Moving Matters® effectively fills. This suite of progressive, age-appropriate, multi-component, learner-driven programmes convinces Learners that “Moving Matters” for Life.
