“Viver o Desporto – Abraçar o Futuro” (Live Sport – Embrace the Future) is a programme that uses sport as a means of paving the way to a new life for refugees settled in Portugal, through a wide range of sports activities and projects to interact and exchange experiences with local communities.
Encompassing these activities under a comprehensive action plan, the NOC Portugal intends to lead by example, showing how sport can be a powerful tool for tackling all forms of discrimination and delivering a better future to those who hope to start a new life away from home.
The programme began in February 2016 building partnerships and cooperation agreements with a wide range of like-minded organizations to form a multi-stakeholder platform where the NOC and national authorities, law enforcement, companies, financial institutions and NGOs to coordinate efforts provide assistance and support, and organize the welcome, reception and hosting of refugees during the current humanitarian crisis.
