More about NRL YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
The program targets two cohorts of young people: Australian Aboriginal youth, who are the most disadvantaged within areas such as life expectancy, educational achievement and employment outcomes in Australia; along with culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) youth, particularly newly arrived migrants, who also suffer high levels of disadvantage. Aboriginal and CALD youth as they face many of the same social issues. Some of these include:
- Social isolation and segregation
- Racism
- Bullying
- Cultural disconnection
The NRL’s identified the need to address these issues through Youth Development programs. The School To Work program was established to improve the education and employment outcomes for Aboriginal youth and the In League In Harmony program developed to use Rugby League as a way to promote social cohesion and integration of culturally and linguistically diverse youth into their communities.
The youth development programs uses a unique combination of theory and practical (movement skills) activities that have been designed around the NRL’s values of Excellence, Inclusiveness, Courage and Teamwork.
