More about Hot Futbol
Futbol (soccer) is a fundamental component of community identity in Haiti for both children and adults. Hot Futbol has a history of providing soccer equipment, player training, coaching education, school supplies, teacher training, and community support. Community development and organization is a challenge at multiple levels in urban Haiti. Key to future community efforts will be the participation and activity of Haitian children in an organized infrastructure.
Competent youth soccer coaches teach not only the skills and tactics of the game, but also the capacity for interdependency of membership on a team, and the skills of communication, leadership, goal setting, discipline, and being a contributing member of a larger community. That larger community includes the opportunity for participation in health care, education, occupation, and civic responsibility. This is our focus because the basic organization of teams so tightly mirrors the necessary components of an organised community.
A viable, well-functioning coaching education curriculum, developed with heavy input from haitian coaches, in the language of the culture will promote the use of standards of practice for soccer coaches which will give both players and coaches a sense of "portable" knowledge of the game that is comparable with the "state of the art" of the game. That sense of standards is itself generalisable to so many other areas of societal activity.
