More about Goal of Life
GoL addresses the issue of communal tension through the lens of Active Pluralism. Active Pluralism promotes a pluralistic worldview, a celebration of differences that moves beyond simply tolerating the other. We have seen, on a day to day basis, the destructive and divisive power of a community without a strong pluralistic agenda. India suffers from high communal tensions, and it is fundamental to diffuse a high-risk situation before it develops into an incident.
Our innovation stems from the primary organizational and strategical roles taken by our coaches and peer leaders as well as the inclusive, discussion and experiential format of our sessions. Since children want to win when they play football, they are compelled to get to know one another, to understand one another, and to anticipate one another's moves and needs.
This compelled sense of interdependency is an innovative way of starting a conversation and creating sensitivity. By working with children from the age of eight, we hope to help foster empowered individuals; communal bigotry is learned, and we are doing our small part to provide an alternative. In this way, Kutumb's GoL programme stands apart from many other sports for development programmes.
