More about Get Started with Football
Get Started with Football is a 5-day programme where young people aged 16 to 25 undertake a variety of football coaching and personal development sessions delivered by professional football club staff. It is an entry-level programme that uses the power of football to engage young people who are significantly disengaged from education, training or employment and lack the confidence, motivation or skills to move their lives forward. By the end of the programme, young people will have achieved a recognised coaching qualification and will have led a coaching session with a group of primary school pupils.
The Government Report ‘Aiming High for Young People: a Ten Year Strategy for Positive Activities’ (HM Treasury, 2007) supported its development, demonstrating that positive activities such as sport can build young people’s resilience when trying to change or rebuild their lives through improving self-confidence, social and communication skills and health and wellbeing.
Get Started with Football enhances young people’s experiences enabling them to be physically active, providing a step towards a football related career, sharing a common interest with other participants, providing access to high quality coaching staff and giving the opportunity to mix with different generations, ethnic or faith groups.
