More about Football 4 Peace Israel
Israel is a deeply divided society. 20% of its population are Arabs with limited contact with their Jewish neighbours. The poor condition of inter-community relations between Jewish and Arab people within Israel can only serve to hinder the broader quest for peace between Israel, Palestine, and other nations. F4P is an activity-based community relations initiative developed by the University of Brighton in collaboration with various partner institutions. Local sports coaches, community leaders and qualified student volunteers work alongside each other bringing together through football, multi sport activities and outdoor education, children from distinctive communities across the country.
F4P began in 2001 with two communities and 100 Arab and Jewish children. 2010 involved 36 communities, 1400+ children in 14 different Cross Community Sport Partnerships (CCSP) including one for females only. The activities and coaching methodologies deployed by F4P are designed to promote positive social values and intimate interaction, laying the foundations for longer-term interpersonal relationships to grow and networks of community sport development to emerge, leading to enhanced mutual understanding and tolerance.
F4P provides and promotes:
- Opportunities for social contact across community boundaries
- Mutual understanding
- Desire for and commitment to peaceful co-existence
- Sports skills and technical knowledge.
