SAFA in partnership with UNAids has run a programme to achieve the UNAids goal of the "Three Zeros: Zero new infections, Zero deaths from Aids; Zero discrimination against those living with HIV/Aids." The campaign has three core compenents: A high-level, high impact messaging campaign using the AFCON and CHAN tournaments hosted in South Africa in 2013 and 2014; building the campaign into the coach education programme of SAFA, targeting the training of 10,000 coaches as life-skills educators; and Protect the Goal activations at multiple SAFA youth tournaments throughout the country.
The key innovation is to deliver this programme using existing SAFA programmes and structures and through collaborative partnerships with NGOs working in this field.
