More about Football Clubs for Development and Peace
The initiative “Football Clubs for Development and Peace” uses the positive power of football. Due to geopolitical factors or conflicts freedom of movement can be significantly limited. Young people are confronted with restricted access to international know-how and educational opportunities. Therefore the international football coaches work locally. They focus on the empowerment and education of the programme’s participant (“Young Coaches”) as role models.
The Young Coaches implement the newly acquired skills directly when working with their own groups of children. Since they will continue their work subsequent to the project, this offers a sustainable improvement. The participants of the programme learn e.g. more about conflict resolution and how to use football to enhance respect, teamwork and health promotion. Further specific social issues to the local community of a project region are included in the programme and taught by local partner organisations. The partnership programme brings together socially committed football clubs and aims to utilise their know-how and popularity for education and wellbeing of young people while also promoting the "Sport for Development and Peace" (SDP) movement. Thereby the initiative assists the achievement of the UN Millennium Development Goals – in particular goal number three (gender equality) and eight (global partnership).
