BT launch 100% Sport

BT have joined forces with Olympic and America’s Cup sailor Sir Ben Ainslie to launch 100% Sport – a global initiative to inspire sports fans around the world to take action to tackle climate change and reduce carbon emissions by using renewable energy.

This initiative gives a unifying voice to individual sports fans, athletes, sports teams and clubs as well as partners to create a global movement to make using 100% renewable energy the new normal.

BT launched BT Sport in 2013 and broadcast hours of sport to fans every week, from soccer to rugby, basketball to baseball, tennis and sailing. As a founding member of RE100, BT Sport is already using 100% renewable electricity in the UK and having committed to working towards 100% renewable electricity globally by 2020. BT are now calling on sports fans help kick-start the movement and switch to renewable energy to create a better world.

100% Sport aims to create awareness about tangible action to tackle climate change. It brings the same passion sport fans feel for their favourite teams to climate action. Everyone is invited to participate with a simple action of switching to renewables.

“This campaign is about how sports fans can change the world” said Niall Dunne, Chief Sustainability Officer for BT. “Coming together for our clubs is what teamwork is all about; and it’s this teamwork that can help us meet the global goals of building a sustainable future.”

To continue the conversation, Beyond Sport will be hosting 100% Sport, powered by BT. We will bring together experts and partners from the sectors of sport, environment, sustainability, campaigning, policy and social change to discuss sport’s place in the green movement.

Hosted at BT Centre, the half-day event will consist of educational panels, inspiring talks and insightful views on what role sport can play in the sustainability conversation, from raising awareness to educating the masses to taking action as an industry itself to reduce its negative impact. The event will also see the announcement of a new effort by BT as one of the leading companies in sustainability behaviour, which will aim to galvanise the sports world to go 100% in its greening efforts.
