Beyond Sport United: Different Leagues, Same Team
Beyond Sport United was created out of the undeniable truth that sports teams have an unrivalled ability to impact on the ever-widening populations of the cities that house them. Backed by MLS, MLB, NASCAR, NBA, NFL, NHL, WNBA, and the English Premier League, the event gathers hundreds of teams, leagues and their partners from around the world to discuss how the professional sport industry can better engage with communities and increase their positive social impact.
From a sports team’s brand reputation and player prestige to the stadia and field of play on which they operate, their assets make them the most revered and recognized focal point of the communities they serve. These assets offer the potential to create significant positive social change.
Many teams from around the world are already using their status to this effect in a variety of innovative ways, but rarely do they meet with their peers to share knowledge and insight which could significantly enhance the reach and impact of their initiatives.
In 2011 and 2012, Beyond Sport United lived as a unique one-day event designed to showcase how these heroic brands and their historic resonance have the profound ability to become hubs of positive influence and resource.
In 2013, for the first time, Beyond Sport United will be part of the global, annual Beyond Sport Summit, taking place Sept 9-11 in Philadelphia. The Summit gathers more than 850 influencers and innovators from the worlds of sport, business, philanthropy, development and government to discuss how sport can play a bigger role in addressing social issues. Beyond Sport United’s themes around teams and leagues will run through the week, with workshops, special sessions focused on action-taking and policy strategy, high-profile panels, and interviews focusing on sports team’s ability to trigger positive social change.
