South Africa - Overview of Project:
The Hope Academy Drakenstein project was introduced to give an opportunity for juvenile offenders to leave crime and prison gangs. Many young men in prison are forgotten by society and 85% of prisoners return to jail once released. Hope Academy was birthed to help rehabilitate young men who have a talent in soccer and help them become responsible citizens once released. Gangsterism and crime are two of the most detrimental factors for youth in South Africa. Hope Academy Drakenstein deals with this head on in the prison system so young men with talent and potential can be steered from a life of crime and into becoming positive role models and leaders in the prison and once released in the community.

We appreciate the nomination and look forward to the event. Hope Academy Drakenstein makes tangible change in the lives of many disenfranchised young men. For some stories on Hope Academy graduates see http://www.aishopeacademy.org/youth-football-academy-africa/drakenstein/graduates

Dear Mark, A truly inspirational project.Spending a day with you whilst in RSA for the WC along with my visit(with the England fans!)to Robben Island without doubt left me realising there is HOPE even for those who find themselves in such dire circumstances. SPORT is the key as the great Madiba said Sport has the power to change peoples lives in this instance it does.Making a big effort to be with you in December.Steve White Chair SDSA www.sdsa.net s
