- Overview of Project:
Harnessing the passion of our fans, The Red Sox have developed the largest team charity in baseball – THE RED SOX FOUNDATION. The Foundation primarily focuses on improving health, education, recreation programs for at risk children and services for veterans with brain injuries and suffering from combat stress disorders. In the last 7 years alone, the team charity has donated over $38 million to charitable programs including several the Red Sox Foundation runs including Red Sox Scholars program serving disadvantaged youth, inner city youth baseball, Japan US Exchange and others. A key social issue we have tackled through sport is exemplified by the Red Sox new “Home Base Program” for veterans returning home from Iraq and Afghanistan with PTSD ( post traumatic stress disorder )and traumatic brain injury (TBI) and their families. Due to the innovative programming and the impact of these programs, the Red Sox Foundation was recently honored with the Steve Patterson Award for “Best Team Charity in Sports” by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Sports Philanthropy Project.
