  • Overview of Project:
Since Lindos Sueños began in 2004, the hallmark social issue the program has tackled has been aiding abandoned children and children living in cases of extreme poverty in the Dominican Republic. As the teens spend time together playing baseball each afternoon, they realize the game of baseball can serve as a secondary and unifying language and can help them better understand one another. As they spend more time together working on the community project, they also realize that they are unified in their respect for others and their willingness to help those in need. The teens begin to communicate effectively with one another and they find that together they can better tackle the challenges of helping the children in the community with greater ease and understanding. In the end, they come to realize that beyond baseball, making a difference in the lives of the children they interact with is what they will remember and cherish in the years to come. As one of our 2010 participants noted, “It brings a smile to my face to bring a smile to their face. Whether it’s building a baseball field, or just running around playing, it’s definitely going to be something I remember for my lifetime.”
