  • Overview of Project:
The K4L Curriculum seeks to address the HIV/AIDS crisis in Lesotho which has a prevalence of 23.2%. The program uses a range of sports activities and games to deliver vital messages and encourage behavioural change in the following key areas. • Youth are better educated about how to avoid HIV infection and to develop healthy behaviours • Stigma and discrimination surrounding HIV is diminished, promoting gender equality and support of those living with HIV. Young people understand the importance of being tested for HIV and how to access medical treatment and counselling if required. • Youth are empowered with critical life-skills including self-esteem, teamwork, leadership and communication. • Participants are encouraged to know their status and to regularly test via our Test Your Team campaign. The K4L Curriculum is particularly focused on orphans and vulnerable children, including HIV positive youth, with an even gender distribution of participants. It is delivered over a six-week period by community role models and peer educators who have been identified and trained by Kick4Life, including sports coaches, teachers and community workers. Kick4Life has expended the program across all ten districts of Lesotho including hard-to-reach rural areas where HIV prevalence can exceed 70%.
