  • Overview of Project:
Liga FOS (Football for Social Opportunity League) is a project that promotes social development through football, in vulnerable neighbourhoods in Buenos Aires suburbs. To achieve this goal, the project has three components: a) two football tournaments a year with the participation of 19 organizations and sports clubs from three different localities and almost 5000 children and adolescent from 7 to 16 years old; b) training and capacity building to community based organizations and their social entrepreneurs; c) raising awareness about football as a tool for development through promotion and communication actions. The main strategies developed to achieve these goals are: networking among participants and with other stakeholders within each neighbourhood; as well as the rebuilding of communitarian bonds and promotion of values. Football is one of the most popular sports in Argentina, and particularly in poor neighbourhoods it is the most favourite activity in which kids and adults get involved. We use football as a tool to create opportunities to the most vulnerable population and to address problems such violence, addictions, social exclusion, lack of education, etc.
