Manchester City Football Club (MCFC) sits in one of the top 50 most deprived wards nationally. In Manchester as a whole 29 of the 32 wards are within the top 10% of areas of deprivation throughout England while its neighbouring borough, Tameside, is the 49th most deprived local authority, again nationally. MCFC through its community programme City in the Community (CITC) works with schools and community groups throughout four local boroughs to tackle issues surrounding deprivation. These issues include supporting families who are experiencing second or third generation unemployment. The scheme delivers a diverse range of programmes to support these groups over a city wide remit using football and the Etihad Stadium to engage with people from all aspects of life. Through its community scheme MCFC has developed educational programmes that inspire and encourage educational achievement from all young people involved in the programmes. The overall aim is to raise the awaremess of opportunities for all young people providing them with realistic and achievable expectations.

Enterprise City has improved our students skills. This scheme operates in an interesting way and makes learning fun. This scheme has given them an understanding of how buisiness operates.

All of our current Year 9 students have completed the Enterprise City course. This has given them a real understanding of how a business operates in an interesting and highly motivating way. They have developed skills which I am sure will increase their chances of employment in the future. We are going to put all of our Year 8 students through the course next year as we are so impressed. The team have also invited us to extra events that have been much appreciated.

'Enterprise City' has been really good. It was a fun way to get a qualification and we worked in all different areas, doing maths, english and other topics. Mike was very helpful and the sessions were really interesting. woo!!!

I went to City of Manchester Stadium last Friday 8th July for an induction day for Denton Community College. All of us that attended had a fantastic day. It was well organised and motivated the students to want to do well. The objective of the day was to get the groups of students working together and to get them to know one another as well as the staff who they will be with. The day was fun filled and provided both staff and students with a positive feel throughout the day. Without CITC a large number of the students that we took along would not have an opportunity to visit somewhere like the City of Manchester Stadium or have been given such a positive start to there school life at Denton Community College. The programme is a credit to Manchester City.

I have been involed with the students since the beginning of this project and have seen it grow. The students have really enjoyed taking part and have benefited enormously from it. City in the Community deserve all the accolades possible for this project.

'Enterprise City' has movitivated and engaged all our students. It's developed their confidence in literacy, numeracy and has boosted their ability to communicate with others. Students have enthused about the opportunity to gain a qualification and have a tour of the stadium. The sessions have been delivered in a relaxed yet purposeful manner and all members of the City in the Community team have been encouraging and motivational. As a school, we look forward to working with CITC in the future!
