  • Overview of Project:
The Carroll Care Center ( CCC) Non-violence Youth Boxing program fosters the values of self-respect and self-esteem. These life skills will be instilled via our training and workshops at our innovative recreation center. Our Youth Boxing program is designed to develop sportsmanship, camaraderies and serve as a venue for mentoring at risk youth. We believe this program can impact these individuals in a positive way that will result in productive influence to the community. By empowering our youth and young adults in our community to flourish as a whole. Our Youth Boxing program is designated in a high gang activity area. Our program addresses the issues of gang activity in the East Garfield community, which correlates dierectly with the increase of homicide in this community. Our objective with the Youth Boxing program is prevention and to reduce the participation of juveniles in the activities of gangs. We counter the negative activities that have become the "normal" for our children with postive activities to bring about a "new normal", positive conflict resolution. This program provides proactive services that will counteract the influences of street life, which ultimately leads to criminal activity.

I have had the opportunity to volunteer and work hands on with this youth program. I have seen so much growth with the youth. Ms. Summerville is a very dedicated and positive person, and it has shown through her work. The youth love Ms. Summerville and all that she does for them. I wish this program nothing but the best.

I work with an agency located in the Humboldt Park area and I would like to say that I am very impressed with the lives that have been touched through the Carroll Care Center. I have actually had the priviledge of meeting with Mrs. Summerville and I must say thank you for motivating me to start a youth program in Humboldt Park. God bless and lets keep our youth alive!!!
