  • Overview of Project:
Hapoel Tel Aviv harnesses its popularity, winning tradition and commitment to social responsibility through an effective, efficient, and far-reaching sport for development and peace project known as Mifalot Chinuch. Mifalot, through collaboration with local partners and governmental entities, implements a unique collection of programs to address a variety of social issues and educational and social challenges facing children and communities in need throughout the region, including: •Cross border activities between at-conflict populations in Israel, Palestine and Jordan including Jews and Arabs and Israelis and Palestinians brought together to train, play and compete together as teammates and friends fostering a culture of mutual respect, peace, dialogue and coexistence. •Programs for Bedouin children in unrecognized remote villages •Programs for children with special needs, including deaf children, disabled children and retarded children. •Programs for children living in at-risk or isolated environments, such as the Bedouins in the Negev or children in state-run boarding homes. •Newly arrived immigrants and refugees learn literacy and language skills and better integrate into their new environment. The recipients of our programs are mostly children from families below the poverty line, disadvantaged children, for the most part neglected and ignored by society. Mifalot also brings their families and peers into the fold through community programs designed to encourage inclusion and community involvement. In every Mifalot program, children wear the Hapoel colours, attend Hapoel matches, and are treated as members of the Hapoel Tel Aviv family.

As the CEO of Cherish Our Children International (COCI) I am so proud to be a supporter of Hapoel. With funding from key supporters such as The Anthony Robbins Foundation and Bridgway Foundaton, COCI has been able to assist Hapoel in expanding their programs over the past three years. This honor as a nominee for Sports Team of the Year could not have gone to a more deserving organization. The work that they do has undoubtedly changed the lives of thousands of children, their families and their communities at-large. At COCI we proudly stand as Mifalot's US partner and we look forward to being able to fund their work for many years to come. Licia Green CEO Cherish Our Children International

The project “Mifalot”, involves nearly 25 000 children from all sectors and populations in Israel: Arabs and Jews, refugees, children with special needs, boarding schools, thousands of children with lower socioeconomic status. The goals are clear: To advance and empower the participants, and to instill in them values of tolerance and respect for others through sport. To acquaint, and bring together populations from different sectors of society. The project “Mifalot” of Hapoel Tel Aviv, is the only one in Israel today, who seriously works within the Palestinian Authorities. As an example, I would mention several National Mixed Teams Soccer Tournaments, where Israeli and Palestinians are playing in mixed teams. Not an easy task to arrange these days. In a usually rather dark Middle East, this project is a light of hope, for coexistence and peace. No wonder that Hapoel Tel Aviv is involved in a project like this, being the number one soccer club, also when it comes to fight racism and prejudice in Israeli soccer. And that includes both the management and the clubs thousands of supporters.

This organization changed my son's life. He was very unpopular and introverted, since he joined the mifalot project he gained many friends and improved dramatically in school. We need more organizations like this in Israel and Palestine in order to bring peace and hope to our region. Kol Hakavod Mifalot!

This program, more than any other I have found, does on the day-to-day, on the ground, work of creating peace. Teaching adults & children alike throughout the entire country of Israel, the West Bank and now Jordan. I have been honored to volunteer with them fro over 4 years, and I love them more as time goes by. My hat is off to the staff & volunteers, and I look forward to many more years of building, growing & expanding peace with Mifalot!

I had a chance to visit several sites where Mifalot works and I can say that they do a great job. It is a pleasure to watch kids of all ethnic groups play soccer together, while learning to respect each other and being socialized to important social cultural norms. These children that come from families who cant affors after school sport classes, get a chance to play, enjoy, belong to a sport group and identify with Hapoel.

Great work! Way to go. Good luck from the US

Laurence, Haiti: 12 May 2010 - 11:31 BST

I think that football is an excellent way to deal with post-trauma - the kids have suffered a lot. We are located in the north of the country which was not affected by the earthquake but we have few kids from Port-au-Prince in the orphanage we support and they have suffered a great deal. Fortunately we found a psychologist who is treating them but soccer activities would be a great way to help them to deal with their trauma as well.

mazi: 12 May 2010 - 09:47 BST

The project is an example of how football can be used for educational purposes. The project should be national and international role model and maybe we can raise a generation of footballers with educational values.

RON CIVLIN-ISRAEL: 12 May 2010 - 09:25 BST

I have no words to describe the great things you do to please thousands of children around the world. Wants to strengthen you, keep your way that commands wonderful what you are doing great. Lots of dishes, from me Ron.

Naim Kheir: 11 May 2010 - 13:10 BST

Kids belongto elemntary schools from Jewish and Arab , secular and religious , And normative and handicaped enjoyed the various activities of Hapoel .. All playing and contributing to their community by the social part of the activity. Great work was done through the area and all due to effective and professional job of the guys there.

this is my first year working with education and social project as a soccer and social coacher once a week at absorption center in Beer Sheva city. the team is 23 children at the ages 8-12 which exposed durring the activities to a basic society morale and ethics ideas for the first part of the lesson (such as leadership, excellent, self image, indulgence, cooperation and more ). the second part of the lesson is to try to practice it in a field they like and familier with (their world) which is football, very important as well and the kids enjoy form it a lot. thank you and have a good one.

Mike Bertenthal: 10 May 2010 - 15:18 BST

Having volunteered with one of Mifalot's special needs program in Jerusalem for the past several months, I can attest not only to benefits it affords the kids who participate- self-esteem, team work, leadership, exercise, etc.- but also the professionalism, level of organization and commitment of the people who work for Mifalot. It is truly an amazing organization!

Sharon Lintz: 10 May 2010 - 10:18 BST

Soccer teaches valuable skills such as discipline, teamwork, communication, and good sportsmanship. Seeing that children are the leaders of tomorrow, this program is an invaluable way to instill these skills in those who will be responsible for the future.

Nir Lahav: 10 May 2010 - 07:15 BST

I have been working with Mifalot Hapoel Tel Aviv for the last 5 years in avery large scale (over i million dollare a year projects) both in Israel and in Rwanda (they came to assist us help Aghaozo-Shalom Youth Village to heal our students who are all orphans from the 1994 genocide). Hopoel Tel Aviv is a unique project that combines giving to society in a criative way using football and sports as a tool for empowerment of disadvanctage kids but unlike many other NGO they run it in an efficient way accountable for each and every Dollar that is donated to them. they are the new generation of NGO who have nobel ideas and objectives while running it as an efficient enterprize. there is no one i know of, who diserves to get this prize more.

elrom kobi: 09 May 2010 - 18:30 BST

this project is the best one that i know the managers put the light on the very important things that we need to give to child.they doing thay things on the best side and give to the child the best condishion for a good education.

Avi (Maje) Meiri: 09 May 2010 - 13:55 BST

Seeing the joy & fullfilment on the children's faces at the end of meeting with their trainer says it all. Just come and see fr your selves as I often do. If you leave them to solve this country's problems through a good game of football, it would take them no more then 90 minutes to rich peace.

gil laish: 08 May 2010 - 14:25 BST

i know this organizion for 3 years already, they do graet job!! i wish more organizons in israel will do what they do for better sociaty.

Nueima, Palestina: 07 May 2010 - 18:42 BST

The children who participate in this project become acquainted with the other side through a fun experience and games. I can feel the changes in their attitudes towards Israelis, through the questions they begin to ask

Nasser Rabia, Palestine: 07 May 2010 - 18:42 BST

This project one of the most important projects here in Susia – this is the only organized sport in the area. It’s the only afternoon activity in the area. And most importantly, its excellent to educate youth to respect their neighbors and not to hate them.

Eid El Hadaleen, Palestine: 07 May 2010 - 18:39 BST

This organization is really making a diffrence in the lives of Palestinians from the west bank. We all wish for peace one day, Hapoel Tel Aviv make this day come closer.

Florentine Lempp-Dagan: 07 May 2010 - 14:18 BST

Truly amazing, sustainable programs. Much needed in this country and in this region and serves as a great example for football clubs in other countries.

Gal Peleg: 06 May 2010 - 21:07 BST

yehonatan stein: 05 May 2010 - 16:25 BST

It's a great project here in Israel. I know the activitis of this organization to educated child thrught the Football. they give a chance for many kids for better futer.

Mark Singer: 05 May 2010 - 15:02 BST

Taking responsibility for matters wider than just football and business, Hapoel Tel Aviv and its programme Mifalot deserves great recognition.

Orli Kessel: 05 May 2010 - 13:45 BST

I think that using sports as a unifying force will serve to remind those involved that despite our superficial differences, we do share commonalities. This project looks like a great way to incorporate fun into lessons in coexistence and mutual respect.

jeff solomon: 05 May 2010 - 13:25 BST

the concept of football and allegience to the colours of a football team by people from different enviroments and religion can clearly lead to acceptance and integration of such diverse communities. the lack of trust between communities is a stark reality and the idea that the common language of football can at the very least build bridges is to be applauded.

Adam Solomon: 05 May 2010 - 13:09 BST

I think the number of different groups of people this charity helps is fantastic. The work with Israeli and Arab children is especially admirable.
