  • Project Host Nation:

  • Overview of Project:
There are two strands to Arsenal Positive Futures; an estates based programme and a section that has developed initiatives with a wide range of groups such as Pupil Referral Units, Youth Offending Service, Youth Inclusion Programme, Priority and Prolific Offender Scheme and of course our own Arsenal Sport & Learning and Arsenal e2e programmes. The project aims to engage young people in a range of sporting and educational activities. By providing a safe and familiar environment where participants feel comfortable, it is hoped that the project will become a consistent and important part of a participant’s routine. A wide range of activities are used to engage with Islington's young people. Football is an obvious route but we have found there is a need to offer other activities to both maintain the interest of participants and to cater for those that are not switched on by football. Rock climbing, kayaking, DJ workshops, athletics, badminton, volleyball, hockey, IT, poetry, photography and residential trips are among the activities that the project has offered participants but always the main focus is, where possible, to move beyond sport and support young people in other areas of their lives.

Arsenal Football Club along with other great clubs in the UK football world have put forward some cracking projects here, including Tottenham Hostpur, Sunderland AFC, Everton and the Football Foundation Premier League, well done there can be no doubt we are lucky in the UK to have great teams that also care about communities. The other Top Teams put their entry into the Best Project by a Professional Sports Team, but seeing Arsenal Football Club being put into that category and also the social inclusion categroy, can I ask on reflection what category you see as the most correct for the great Arsenal Football Club.
