More about Playing For Success Gloucestershire

Playing for Success Gloucestershire uses the power of professional sport to inspire and motivate children and young people who are at risk of underachieving in education. The project has learning centres in 4 of the county’s professional sports clubs. This includes Gloucester Rugby, Cheltenham Racecourse, Cheltenham Town Football Club and Forest Green Rovers Football Club. Each centre works with the local authority to identify partner schools that are operating in areas of economic deprivation. Those schools then identify students who they feel need support in developing their self confidence and help in removing barriers to learning. Children attending the centre can expect to take part in a six week after school project which includes activities such as player interviews, creating stop motion animations, stadium tours and taster sessions of various sports. Centres also run additional services during the school day targeted at pupils who are at risk of exclusion from school. These services aim to improve life chances through helping students get alternative qualifications that help them get entry to college and apprenticeship schemes. These inspiring venues help to support children and young people achieve their personal best in all areas of learning and sport.
