More about Philadelphia City Rowing Public School Team
Philadelphia City Rowing ("PCR") aims to recruit and retain at-risk Philadelphia public school students who, historically, have not had access to rowing, and seeks to empower them through the discipline, perseverance, and teamwork the sport instills. PCR addresses youth engagement, social mobility, health, nutrition, and academic achievement in our community, offering inclusion in one of the Philadelphia’s great sporting traditions and access to college scholarship opportunities.
PCR is free for participants and delivers programming in three core areas: rowing, academic support, and mentoring. Rowing teaches participants the importance of exercise and healthy habits, while encouraging excellence, teamwork, accountability, and sportsmanship. PCR emphasizes academics, and supports student-athletes by providing tutoring, counseling and SAT preparation. Mentors help reinforce these values, while providing support and guidance.
Our multifaceted model helps young people lead healthier lives, pursue paths to higher education, and reach their full potential in and out of the sport of rowing.
