More about Glasgow Sport Coach Core
Glasgow Sport Coach Core aims to use sport as a vehicle to provide valuable work experience for young people promoting life skills and a future of long-term employment whilst improving the quality and availability of sports coaching within voluntary community sports clubs.
Glasgow’s unemployment rate stands at 11.3% of the working age population, compared to a Scottish average of 7.8% and a UK average of 7.7%. Youth unemployment figures within the city are higher than those for the overall population with 11.9% of school leavers in 2010/11 registered as unemployed and seeking work. In a city context Glasgow Life provides the second largest number of sports coaching work experience opportunities, which at 851 is 26% of the overall total provided by Glasgow City Council and Arms Length and External Organisations (ALEOs).
Glasgow Sport’s Coach Core is in a unique position in that we can intervene on a number of levels from initial engagement, particularly with those who are furthest from the job market, to supporting individuals improve their self esteem and personal wellbeing to skills development and work experience.
