More about Danny Ings Disability Sports Project
There is an abundance of young disabled people across Burnley who have little-to-no opportunity to enjoy and benefit from sport. The Danny Ings Disability Sports Project aims to directly combat this disadvantage.
Sport offers holistic benefits; not only good physical health but raised confidence and self-esteem. As a consequence of exclusion from sport – in most cases for their entire lives – the young disabled people we work with often experience low-confidence levels and low aspirations for the future.
Our project works within the context of Burnley FC’s official charity, Burnley FC in the Community, and is led by footballer Danny Ings. Aiming to not only develop the physical skills of participants in areas such as agility, mobility and co-ordination, the project also focusses on what it means to be a respected and valued member of society. It uses sport, and an inspirational sportsperson, to deliver life-changing opportunities to disabled young people across Burnley and also to raise disability awareness in our wider community.
