More about Chance to shine
The Cricket Foundation's ?50million Chance to shine campaign is the single biggest school sport development initiative ever undertaken in Britain. The independent charity aims to create sustainable cricket cultures within one third (6,700) of the country’s state schools by 2015 and to offer two million state school children the benefits of competitive cricket. The charity strongly believes that cricket can draw together young people from all cultures and backgrounds and give opportunities to boys and girls, as well as to those with special needs.
Not a campaign for cricket development, but rather a campaign for development through cricket, Chance to shine recognises the power of competitive cricket to help young people acquire skills, values and attitudes. It is a campaign to enhance education, to promote aspiration, to encourage inclusion and create cohesive communities. Backed by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), all the major cricketing bodies and Sport England, Chance to shine projects revolve around one cricket club and a cluster of six nearby primary and secondary schools.
This year, ECB-qualified coaches will provide 280 hours of structured coaching and competition to around 3,000 state schools and ?5million will be spent on the Chance to shine programme.
