More about BP
Oman Sail is unique within the region with two areas of focus; using sport as a vehicle for social change and working in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism to raise awareness of the Sultanate as a tourism destination.
Domestically, Oman Sail offers free sailing programmes at all levels from the ‘Try Sailing’, where over 17,000 children have been introduced to sailing, right through to elite competition. Oman Sail is offering Omanis the chance to reconnect with the nation’s nautical history, become role models and ambassadors for the country, and represent Oman at international level – with the ultimate goal of winning an Olympic medal for the Sultanate.
The BP Oman Sail Young Leaders Programme is run by BP Oman and Oman Sail to teach valuable employment skills including teamwork, confidence, creativity and problem solving through the sport of sailing, diving and other outdoor activities to enhance the job prospects of 1,400 Omani students.
The programme also creates direct employment as, with BP’s support, Oman Sail has hired eight apprentices from the unemployment list and will train them as facilitators over the next two years. Four of these apprentices are young Omani females.
