Beyond Sport has announced that Accenture will provide support to the winners of the Beyond Sport Awards 2009, through Accenture Development Partnerships. Beyond Sport is the global initiative that seeks to promote the use of sport as a tool for positive social change.

The Beyond Sport Awards look to unearth, celebrate and support the world’s most inspirational sports projects. The winners in six categories receive funding and long-term support to help them to become fully sustainable.

Accenture Development Partnerships will send teams to spend time on the ground with each of the winning projects, helping them to tackle key strategic challenges, which may include building skills and capabilities to help them increase their impact in their communities.

Said Nick Keller, Founder of Beyond Sport: “Accenture Development Partnerships has long been admired as the leader in providing the highest standard business services to the development sector, and we are hugely excited to have them work with our winning projects.

“Accenture’s involvement means we can go beyond financially rewarding best practice and provide the vital skills and capacity needed to significantly scale the impact these projects are delivering for their communities.”

“To that end, our support of these awards aims to be both global and locally relevant - and to concentrate on performance and outcomes,” added Gib Bulloch, executive director, Accenture Development Partnerships.

The shortlisted projects for the Beyond Sport Awards 2009 were chosen from over 275 entries reaching more than 80 countries that submitted applications to this year’s scheme.

Representatives from each of the shortlisted projects were flown over to London to attend the inaugural Beyond Sport Summit on July 7-9.

All the Awards winners will be announced on the climactic day of the Summit, which comprises a high-profile speaker list including Rt. Hon. Tony Blair, former British Prime Minister and Chairman of the Beyond Sport Ambassadors; Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu; Prince Faisal Al Hussein of Jordan; Wilfred Lemke, United Nations Special Advisor to the Secretary General and multi-Olympic gold medallists Michael Johnson and Ian Thorpe.

Accenture Development Partnerships is a group within Accenture that provides strategic advice and technical and project management support to non-profit organizations, NGOs, foundations and donor organizations operating in the development sector, helping these organizations achieve their social and economic development goals.

Joining Accenture Development Partnerships in providing technical support to the Beyond Sport Awards winners will be financial services firm Barclays and advertising agency BBH.
