Gathering begins at Inaugural Beyond Sport Summit
The inaugural Beyond Sport Summit in London has begun, kicking off three days dedicated to sport and development issues and which will see the leading social entrepreneurs from across the world mixing with a host of influential global figures.
Joining representatives from the shortlisted projects for the Beyond Sport Awards, which recognise the best sport-led social innovation initatives from across the world, will be the likes of Rt. Hon. Tony Blair, former Prime Minister of Great Britain, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Prince Faisal Al Hussein of Jordan; Boris Johnson, Mayor of London; and Wilfried Lemke, United Nations Special Advisor to the Secretary General.
The Summit's climactic day, held on July 9, will see panels, interviews and discussions with some of the world’s leaders in business, government and development focussing on sport’s role in various global issues such as education, health, crime, and social inclusion.
Additionally, the Beyond Sport Awards winners will be announced, where six of the recipients will be awarded £10,000 and a substantial package of consulting, creative, and mentoring support.
These winners, which will be revealed throughout the day, are chosen from the prestigious Shortlist of 32 projects and initiatives, whose representatives have been brought to London from all five continents, reaching 40 countries, to participate in all three days, starting on July 7.
The entire event can be followed live at www.beyondsport.org, regular updates, blogs, videos and pictures will be posted throughout the three days.
