Chelsea F.C. voices its support for Beyond Sport

Chelsea Football Club has praised Beyond Sport, supporting its mission to recognise projects that use sport to drive social change.

One of the club’s top players, Deco, commended Beyond Sport after acknowledging that his own endeavours have shown what sport can do for challenged communities and populations.

‘I have always believed in the power of sport to educate and to inspire and I know that everyone at Chelsea Football Club supports this view. Sport is more than a game, it is a vehicle to bring people together, to resolve conflicts and to provide healthier lives for millions of people across the world,’ the world-renowned player said.

Deco has taken it upon himself to materialise this belief though a school he founded in his hometown called the Deco20 Institute.

The Deco20 Institute is a school for children ages 6 and up in the town where the midfield star grew up, Indaiatuba. Deco’s decision to create the school was inspired by a desire to help the struggling communities in the area he knows so well from childhood and to enable unprivileged youngsters to enjoy private education and extra-curricular activities without having to pay.

‘Through my own experiences with the Deco20 Institute and through Chelsea’s work with Right To Play I have seen the power of sport reach out to people and to communities and it is fantastic that Beyond Sport is recognising this impact,’ Deco said.
