Beyond Sport wins backing of the International Olympic Committee

The International Olympic Committee, arguably the most powerful sports federation in the world, has given its full endorsement of the Beyond Sport global initiative.

Writing to Tony Blair, Chairman of the Beyond Sport Ambassadors, the International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge stated:

“On behalf of the Olympic Movement, I would like to extend my congratulations to all the people involved in the Beyond Sport initiative.

“Throughout your life the ideal for which you have striven is, over the course of time, to make people’s lives a little more worth living. Today, with this new undertaking, you also show your deep commitment to the cause of sport and how sport can and must be used as a vehicle to bring people together and as a means for positive change in our modern society.

“We all know that physical activity and sport have a crucial social impact which we cannot ignore and have the duty to support. And the IOC and the sports movement in general today have a social responsibility to promote access to the practice of sport and, through this, improve the quality of life and well-being.

“This is why I am convinced that Beyond Sport will play an important part in increasing public awareness and support, which will make it possible for thousands of people to reach their goal of a better life.

“I wish Beyond Sport every success in its future endeavours in the field of good through sport.”
