Greg James - The Ambassadors
Founder of Sagitta Group and Jag Foundation
Greg James is the founder and CEO of Sagitta Group, a dynamic financial investment company that combines his business instinct with his passion for socio-economic transformation. The company presently incorporates a number of leading South African and global concerns, including international sports management company, Prosport, leading SA cycling franchise, Cycle Lab, as well as Pezula and Omega.
Greg also heads up the JAG Foundation, which aims to transform troubled communities in South Africa into healthy communities by targeting drug and alcohol abuse through youth-focused mentoring, coaching, knowledge and sport programmes. With the support of Sagitta, the foundation has achieved national reach through a coaching-the-coaches structure, showing the efficiency and effectiveness of this particualar multi-sector partnership.
Away from the office, Greg is a committed and accomplished sportsman and has competed in the Hawaii Iron man triathlon, the Two Oceans Ultra-marathon and cycled with Lance Armstrong, completed the 8-day mountain bike race, ABSA Cape, as well as the South African Ironman.
Prior to founding Sagitta, Greg managed Mergers & Acquisitions in the Coal Division for Glencore. In this role, he succeeded in leading a merger of Glencore’s Colombian coal assets with Rio Tinto Colombian coal mines and upped its annual rollout from 3 million to 30 million tonnes. He also led negotiations with the Colombian Government to gain access to the rail and port infrastructure in the country.
Greg obtained his B. Comm. degree from Rhodes University in 1988 and qualified as a chartered accountant in 1990 while serving his articles at Price Waterhouse in East London. He subsequently held the position of Senior Audit Manager at Price Waterhouse.
Greg is also Treasurer for Western Province Cricket Association and Chairperson of the Sunflower Foundation.
Greg is married to Tinkie and has a son Matthew, 15 and daughter, Nicole, 14.
