The latest from Stay in the Game Network Members

From developing telehealth services for youth, to creating a free digital  "character playbook" for students homebound during the pandemic, here are some of the incredible ways Network Members have been harnessing the power of sport to promote mental wellness in the communities in which they serve, all while dealing with the added challenges presented by the COVID-19 outbreak.

Creating Champions: Boston-based nonprofit, Doc Wayne, uses sport to promote mental health & wellness – on and off the field

Doc Wayne provides innovative, sport-based services for youth and families seeking mental health support. During the pandemic, their coaches are committed to #StayInTheGame by offering virtual, Telehealth services. Anyone can sign up to meet weekly with one of their clinicians or mentors who are trained to help manage mental health and wellness. By using sport-based language and activities, Doc Wayne is reimagining therapy to create champions – on and off the field.

Despite not being able to run in-person sessions during the pandemic, their coaches are dedicated to harnessing the power of sport to promote wellness. In addition to providing Telehealth services, they have launched a new “Kids & COVID-19” webinar series to provide a space for athletes, coaches, and other professionals to talk about mental wellness tips and/or their own mental health during this pandemic.

Recent guests have included U.S. Olympic Ice Hockey Goaltender, Molly Schaus, and Division 1 University at Buffalo point guard, Hanna Hall. Past episodes have attracted an audience from over 10 countries – A stark reminder that sport is the common language that bonds us all.
