Shortlist Spotlight: Best Corporate Campaign or Initiative in Sport for Good

There is less than one week to go until the Beyond Sport Global Awards take place at the One World Observatory, One World Trade, New York City – one of the most prestigious venues in the world’s most iconic city. The evening will be a celebration of all our shortlisted organizations and the life-changing work they do in their communities and across the world.

This year's Award categories have been aligned to the UN’s Global Goals for Sustainable Development, encouraging projects and organizations to align themselves with the goals to achieve Agenda 2030. Corporate social responsibility has increased in the last 20-30 years and large multinational organizations are increasingly thinking about their social impact.

To celebrate the great work of these organizations, we have included the Best Corporate Campaign or Initiative in Sport for Good award. This gives organizations the opportunity to show how they are using their reach, resources and influence to affect change. Those shortlisted for this Award are:

Unilever - Connected by the City, Brazil

The Connected by the City project has used sport to connect people and organizations, and reach other latent social problems in underprivileged communities of Rio de Janeiro. Sport is a shared passion of many people from various social backgrounds, and this is how they engage communities in socio-educational activations that are very important but do not receive the proper attention they require. Connected by the City had two main social objectives: the first one was to carry out socio-educational actions so that people would become knowledge replicators and thus the actions had long-term benefits, and the second was to connect people and entities that could potentiate the initiatives. The main connector between all actions was the construction of multi-sports court in two known communities of Rio de Janeiro, Santa Marta and Cantagalo, which engaged the residents to listen and perform the other proposed actions.

Chevron - Inspiring Future Innovators through STEM and sports, USA

Across the country, Chevron partners with professional sports teams to inspire and educate area students. In the San Francisco Bay Area, home of Chevron’s global headquarters, Chevron’s partnership with the San Francisco 49ers exemplifies how they use sports both to excite student interest in STEM and to provide students with in-depth opportunities for rigorous STEM study. As a company of engineers and scientists, they understand the importance of a STEM-skilled workforce. With more than 100 years of investing in communities where they operate, Chevron has learned that few factors are more important to being able to compete in the global marketplace than a robust supply of people in the workforce who are educated and trained in STEM.

MLSE Foundation - MLSE Launchpad, Canada

MLSE Foundation believes every child should have access to quality, affordable sport programming in top-quality facilities. They recognise that sport has the powerful ability to transform the lives of children and youth facing barriers through the development of life-skills. MLSE LaunchPad is a new 42,000 sq. ft. Sport for Development facility that combines sport, education and research to provide physical activities and life skills programming for young people facing barriers to recognize and reach their potential. MLSE LaunchPad’s overall program objective is to promote health, safety, education, and employment through participation in intentional sport programming.
