Former Bafana Bafana captain, Lucas Radebe, chairman of the host committee will be joining us in Johannesburg. Lucas will be talking across various platforms at the Beyond Sport Summit & Awards 2014. Lucas, born in Soweto, has spoken ahead of the Summit about his excitement for the event, and pleasure he has regarding the Summit's return to South Africa. Lucas said:
"I am excited that Beyond Sport’s flagship event, the Global Summit, is returning to South Africa"
"I am especially proud that for the first time it will be held in my hometown of Soweto. It seems like yesterday that I was welcoming the world to Soweto for the 2010 Fifa World Cup.
"It is extremely important that South Africa continues to be a hub for global sports events and initiatives. We have, and can continue, to set the pace for sport as a vehicle for social change.
"I have often said my career would not have been possible without the late Madiba. Whilst I have always been committed to helping others, when Madiba passed away I reinforced that commitment to continue working in his image to motivate, help and galvanise South Africa’s next generation."
"I am a great believer in Beyond Sport’s mission, not only here in South Africa, but globally, and I am honoured to be one of the organisation’s ambassadors," Radebe said.
"As chair of the host committee, I look forward to working with their outstanding and dedicated team."
Lucas will be welcoming delegates on day one of the Beyond Sport Summit taking place at the Nike Football Training Centre in Soweto, the home of sport for social change in Johannesburg. He will also be speaking on the opening panel, exploring why youth leadership in sport can change the world on day two at Vodacom World.
