LACES AND CHELSEA FC UNITE FOR ANTI-DISCRIMINATION HACKATHON EVENT

March 22, 2019

Global sport for development non-profit LACES is partnering with English Premier League club, Chelsea FC and UNITE 2030 on the “Kick-Out Discrimination Hackathon." Taking place April 13-14, it will be a global, virtual, 48-hour “hackathon” style Summit addressing the challenging issue of discrimination, with a focus on devising innovative ways to tackle discrimination in sport and using sport to promote inclusion around the globe.

Young leaders between ages 18 - 30 will be selected to attend the Summit via a competitive selection process, based on proven leadership ability/potential, passion, dedication and impact. Leaders across all sectors and interest areas are welcome to apply in order to create what the organizations hope to be a “diverse international community.” UNITE 2030 is offering a limited number or scholarships to attend (deadline to apply is March 26).

Some description

At the end of the two days, teams will submit an action plan that lays out the groundwork for their solution to discrimination. UNITE 2030 will culminate with a pitching round where teams will present their solutions to a judging panel. The winning team will receive three months of virtual mentorship from Launch 22, a charity incubator program which will help them bring their ideas to life and further their leadership growth.

UNITE 2030: Kick-Out Discrimination hackathon is  part of the global “Red Card for Hate” campaign led by Chelsea FC and the World Jewish Congress. The campaign harnesses the spirit of sport to combat all forms of discrimination and build bridges of unity between people of different religious, ethnic and national backgrounds.

LACES leverages the power of sport to mentor at-risk youth. Since 2007 they have been investing in the lives of former child soldiers, Ebola orphans, street children and refugees. In 2015, they received the Courageous Use of Sport Award at the Beyond Sport Global Awards for their work fighting Ebola in Liberia.

Chelsea FC Foundation is a member of the 2019 Sport & STEM Alliance. Learn about how to join here. Our first event kicks off on April 2.
