John Cena honoured at USO-Metro Annual Awards

WWE Superstar John Cena was honored at the USO-Metro Annual Awards Dinner in Washington, D.C. on April 19. WWE Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon presented Cena with the 2016 Legacy of Achievement Award at the USO-Metro’s 75th anniversary event. Other notable attendees included WWE Executive Vice President of Talent, Live Events & Creative Paul “Triple H” Levesque; Linda McMahon; WWE Superstar Nikki Bella; host Jon Stewart; and “American Grit” stars Tawanda “Tee” Hanible, Rorke Denver and Nick “The Reaper” Irving. The gala also honored the 40th anniversary of USO-Metro CEO Elaine Rogers.

The USO’s mission is to lift the spirits of America's troops and their families. WWE has been a longtime supporter of the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces, both at home and abroad, through programs that boost morale for soldiers on the field, offer free entertainment for active military at home, and provide workforce assistance for veterans.

WWE and the USO have been partnering over the past 15-plus years to bring entertainment for the troops. After 9/11, WWE provided the pay-per-view events for those troops who were deployed to Fort Myer for the security mission at the Pentagon. WWE also provides tickets to wounded, ill and injured servicemembers to attend the WWE matches held locally at the Verizon Center in D.C. and 1st Mariner Arena in Maryland. WWE also participates in the USO Celebrity Handshake tours in the Washington/Baltimore area visiting the troops at various bases as well as our warriors who are in the hospital.
